NPI Visual Strategy & Technical Documentation

Date

2025

As a key component of the New Product Introduction (NPI) cycle for the Nexus range, I created the design and art direction for the ranges primary touchpoints: the Quick Start Guide (QSG) and the Technical Data Sheet.

Having previously established the overarching brand identity for the Nexus range, I leveraged the newly defined style guide to ensure that these essential user documents delivered a cohesive and premium brand experience.

Quick Start Guide: Optimising User Onboarding
My objective for the QSG was to reduce cognitive load during the initial setup phase. Working in close alignment with the Product Development Manager and NPI stakeholders, we pivoted toward a "visual-first" instructional strategy.

Instructional Design: I created illustrative diagrams rather that using photography to achieve a clean, distraction-free aesthetic that emphasises clarity and speed of use.

Technical Workflow: To ensure 100% technical accuracy, I used 3D mechanical CAD models from the Engineering department. I imported these into Blender, applying custom non-photorealistic (NPR) render filters to generate precise line art.

Vector Integration: These renders were converted into stylised vectors, allowing for infinite scalability and precise aesthetic control within the final layout.

Form Factor: The final output was engineered as a compact 8pp square fold-out leaflet, specifically designed to integrate seamlessly into the product’s physical packaging.

Data Sheet: Balancing Technical Rigor with Marketing Appeal
The Data Sheet required a more comprehensive approach, presented as a traditional 8pp saddle-stitched brochure. The challenge lay in combining dense technical specifications with high-impact sales messaging.

Dynamic Visuals: To elevate the "dry" technical data, I produced a series of high-fidelity 3D product renders, bespoke iconography, and supportive illustrations.

Information Architecture: Using Adobe InDesign, I developed a layout that balances white space with vibrant design elements. The result is a document that remains highly functional for engineers while being visually engaging enough for the sales and marketing teams.

By bridging the gap between complex engineering and user-centric design, I delivered assets that not only inform the user but reinforces the premium positioning of the Nexus brand.
